With a captivating voice and perfect pitch delivering a beautiful blend of folk, blues, and soul, Manchester born JP Cooper is easily one of my favorite singers. A few years ago, my friend, JSL, sent me the link to a spoken word performance that featured Mr Cooper’s acoustic sound. While the spoken word piece was actually really good, it was Cooper’s music I couldn’t get to stop playing in my head for days after. For a combination of his spellbinding voice and intriguing songwriting, I was soon a rather keen fan, excitedly playing over and over again all the songs in the two EPs he had out at the time. image Following a sold-out UK tour and supporting Angie Stone in 2014, JP Cooper returned earlier this year with his 4th EP, 5 tracks that combines everything I love about this man. Exploring a journey of love, longing and loss, the EP, When The Darkness Comes, is a testament to Cooper’s talent for songwriting and lyricism – breathtaking. The dread-locked, blue-eyed singer who was also a singer at The Manchester Sing Out Choir, has named Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway, and Bill Withers as some of his influences. image https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUqsWxuhDRA
I get warm fuzzies every time I remember that JP Cooper is working on an album soon. He has been hailed as “a future sound of 2015”, and oh, I hope the world is ready!

It’s a great start to the week with music like this. You’re welcome. 🙂 Kov.
