I got to know about Evan J Atwood’s work a couple of years ago when he was named one of Flickr’s 20 under 20 inspiring young artists – the most talented young photographers on Flickr. (It’s the same list from which I became familiar with David Uzochukwu’s work).
Evan has a flair for the cinematic. Looking through his work is like an invitation to witness something intimate. It’s a beauty that is undeniable. Raw. Unadulterated. Vulnerable. His self portraits make me feel like I’m evading his personal space, intruding almost (even though I know I have permission to be there). As if by staring too hard, I could somehow taint it. Still, I stay transfixed. There is something familiar here. I can almost touch the emotions and, many times, they mirror mine.
