These happen to be my latest architectural and design obsession; shipping container homes. One would think repurposed shipping containers would be too ugly to call home, but thankfully, there are designers and architects out there with a knack for creativity who are thinking outside the box and taking ordinary looking steel boxes and turning them into works of art. It’s pure genius! Not to mention eco friendly and sustainable.
These designs are anything from one container studio spaces to as many containers as possible fused together to make a much more spacious residence. Here are a few of my favourite…
Huiini House, Mexico.
31 shipping containers later, there’s this
beauty! See details.
Container studio in New York. See details.
Love the simplicity of this private container home in Germany. See details.
6 container home in Flagstaff, Arizona. See details.
2 40 foot long container home in Costa Rica. See details.
The 2,300 square foot one bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom residence is made with six shipping containers and pre-engineered steel components.
I was reading about a company in Nigeria that offers shipping container homes for sale the other day (can’t seem to find the link). While I’m glad that’s available here, I wasn’t particularly impressed with the designs. Hopefully, in time that would change and we’d see more creative spaces; homes, offices, lounges, coffee shops!
