Hello Fellow Reader,

What I’ve done here is compile the most beautiful reads the Blessed Internet threw my way this past week, so you too can take several moments today to steep yourself in an ‘other’ world.

1. The Husband Stitch by Carmen Maria Machado. If you like this, she’s put links to her fiction here.

2. Heat by Joyce Carol Oates who’s one of my faves. This whole website is a gem; all those classic shorts! I’ve wasted many a day there.

3. Kierkegaard on why anxiety powers creativity rather than hindering it. Enlightening; very. My favourite quote would be:

Hence, anxiety is the dizziness of freedom, which emerges when the spirit wants to posit the synthesis and freedom looks down into its own possibility, laying hold of finiteness to support itself. Freedom succumbs to dizziness.

4. I loved this silly thing too much. (Yes, something light finally!) So, it’s Mr. Darcy and Lizzy Bennett in (wait-for-it) the club. You know you have to read that. Pride & Prejudice goes hip-hop! If that made you groan and do a face-palm, then it’s perfect for you.

5. Boonoonoonoos Little Bit Boonoonoonoos. Because Binyavanga Wainaina & Jalada are bae.

I hope you enjoy at least one thing on the list. I’m reading ‘Shantaram’ by Gregory David Roberts right now and I’m overwhelmed by the seeming similarities between the Bombay he’s describing and the Lagos I live in. It’s such a big book and I’m not close to halfway in but I would already recommend it.

I’ve been re-listening to Bastille’s ‘Requiem for a Dream‘; I only just watched the movie recently and so it’s a delayed appreciation for this cover of Lana Del Rey’s ‘Blue Jeans’. Also, Kygo’s remix of Sexual Healing. Mhmmn…

We hope to do this little segment quite regularly, so if there’s something you’d like us to add, do let us know.
