Tosin is someone we’ve known for a while now and I think anyone who follows his Social Media pages will agree about his excellent taste in music. He finds the gems. So, we’ve asked Tosin to share with us his favourite album art and then create a playlist with songs from these albums. Enjoy!
I like to believe that artists try to convey a message with their album covers, I personally see them as soundless or better still visual tracks. Undoubtedly the quality of the music helps our mind set on the matter but there’s also that little old thing called, subjectivity. I know I’m not the only one who’s decided to get an album solely because of its cover art and nine out of ten times I’m glad I did.
There are so many ways to categorize album covers little wonder why we call it artwork. Some Artists certainly put in effort to get the right one for an album (topic for another day). Just like the way we access our music, the act of album covers has also evolved over the years from the fold-out gatefolds of the vinyl era to pull-out liner notes in CD jewel cases to the small icon on a digital player to thumbnails on our personal computer’s music player, but it still defines how we look at a particular album–photographic portraits, paintings, collages, etc.
The purpose of this post is to share a few of my favorite album covers from my vast collection and also my favorite tracks in them, some of those you may be a little puzzled by.
Originally just a protective cover for the fragile crackly goods beneath, it soon evolved into a space for artistic expression in its own right, very often becoming as important as the music itself.
PS: You will not find the most talked about album artworks on the internet. Oh well… 🙂 Feel free to share yours in the comments section.
